Presentation
Mekanika was founded in 2019. Its credo: promoting local production!
The Brussels-based company designs and manufactures open-source machines for textile printing and the cutting of various materials such as wood, metal, cork, carbon, etc. These machines, delivered in kit form, are intended for craftspeople, entrepreneurs, and makers.
Products & Services
Mekanika sells textile screen printing machines as kits with open-source plans, allowing the easy customisation or modification of the machine. The company also provides inks and aluminium frames.
Mekanika also offers a range of digital milling machines (CNC) whose size and power change to adapt to the activity: Evo – the office CNC, Pro – the professional CNC, and Fab – the panel-size CNC. These machines are complemented by modular accessories to meet a range of work configurations.
The machines come with video tutorials to facilitate their operation. Free educational content and technical courses are also provided.
Technical support is also available within 24 business hours.
In parallel, Mekanika manages a community platform where makers can exchange and share knowledge among peers.
Expertise
Mekanika’s expertise spans several levels. Their machines are eco-designed, modular, and repairable, with standard parts that are easy to replace as nothing is welded or glued. Additionally, they follow an open-source approach, providing access to all plans to facilitate repairs. The machines are delivered in kits to reduce shipping impact and encourage skill acquisition, thereby promoting prolonged use and avoiding planned obsolescence. Lastly, a platform is available to energise a community around the machines and promote local production through their use.
