Presentation

Gilbard, based in Anderlecht since 2019, is a collective that works with reused materials to develop local art and design projects. By adopting an ethical and contextual approach, Gilbard transforms recovered resources into original creations, while strengthening social connections in its neighbourhood.

Products & Services

Gilbard’s main activity is based on the recovery and redistribution of construction materials (wood, metal, textiles, etc.), inspired by the exchange model of the Federation of Recuperatheques. These recovered materials are then reused to produce a wide range of furnishings, in particular indoor and outdoor furniture.

Gilbard specialises in the design and production of furniture and objects, such as benches, display units, tables and other modular structures. These creations, which are often intended for public or community spaces, are produced in close collaboration with the local users, thereby fostering a process of co-creation.

The services offered by Gilbard include:

  • Design of furniture for organisations or events, whether for indoors or outdoors, by reusing reclaimed materials.
  • Design of public spaces through participative processes with residents, aimed at creating functional and aesthetically pleasing living spaces.
  • Design advice and provision of materials for creative projects, through a drop-in service and workshops that are open to the neighbourhood.
  • Small series production: In 2024, Gilbard is taking on the challenge of small series production, making good use of the experience acquired during its many projects. A range based on reused CLT offcuts has been launched, combining production efficiency and flexibility in the customisation of finishes.

Production is entirely local, artisanal and carried out in Gilbard’s workshops, in Anderlecht. Owing to its manufacturing tools and techniques, the collective is able to tailor each project to the available resources, ensuring a custom approach while remaining true to the principles of sustainability.

Expertise

Gilbard leverages its expertise in the transformation of recovered materials to design objects and furniture that meet the specific needs of its customers and its neighbourhood. Each creation is guided by the materials available locally, and the production process is designed to adapt to these constraints.

The collective favours an experimental and contextual approach, challenging traditional design methods in order to incorporate innovative solutions. The pooling of resources, experimentation and collaboration with local partners are central to their practice, enabling Gilbard to develop unique projects that are tailored to local realities.
